Occlusal Disease

Your body is brilliantly designed to be efficient but sometimes its alignment or function needs a little help. This is particularly true when talking about occlusal disease which refers to a malfunction of the way your upper and lower jaw meet each time you bite or chew.
Your teeth and bones are specifically designed to accept the stresses of biting and chewing forces. But when the teeth are in poor alignment, the stresses fall on the wrong spots. You can imagine if your jaws meet in the wrong alignment hundreds of times a day with all the force you use to bite or chew, it can be hard on your teeth, the bones and muscles of your jaws, head and neck.

The results of this misalignment include:
  • Worn teeth
  • Broken or cracked teeth
  • Damage to dental work
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Receding gums
  • Loss of bone mass
  • Muscle pain
This misalignment can even be involved in causing problems with the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), a joint found in front of each of your ears.

Dr. Daniel Suh has continued his dental education to include training in detecting and treating occlusal disease. If we see signs of wear or breakage, we will let you know how we can help to prevent further problems.
